As mentioned in other parts of the site, one of the biggest challenges of the marathon is not just finishing the race, but making it to the race refreshed and ready to compete. Here are some tips to avoid injury, so the experience will be enjoyable!
Common Training Errors:
Training errors cause the greatest amount of injuries that prevent runners from participating in running events.
Inconsistency
A major key to improving your running is be train consistently. Inconsistent training can lead to may injuries. It is important to not miss too many days in a row and then get right back to running.
Building Mileage Too Rapidly
The best advice is to stick with the 10 percent rule, which means that you do not increase your weekly mileage by more than 10 percent or increase the distance of your long run by more than 10 percent per week.
Not Following the Hard-Easy Concept of Training
This training error is referred to as "being a slave to your training schedule". While it is very important to be as consistent as possible regarding your training, it is vital to listen to what your legs are communicating to you throughout your marathon training period. Above all, incorporate rest days into your schedule prior to hard workouts.
Use Fresh Shoes
